Years ago we made a pact to write the epitaph of whoever died first. We both figured it would be me. We were wrong. They promised him love and took advantage of his spiritual innocence, just to gain his body. They do it all the time. The nursery rhyme that sings the female sweet as sugar needs to be amended. Too many are born with tastes for other things, like the sweet souls of this one here. The moral of this short tale is a philosophical question: Are we fools to love? The question cannot be answered to any satisfaction except by those who never loved and the few who loved true, and were loved true back.

A beautiful fool he was born, and a beautiful fool he died. And that was his great achievement: he never changed his heart. Each time lies broke it apart, he put it back together same as it had been before. He loved true and in that, lived more, relative to what is beautiful and true, than ten-thousand others ever do. Its not only women who feel used. Men have the same problem, maybe more so. Not that we are going to complain, unless, of course, its love weve proven. But complaining never stopped a train wreck. And that is too often what love is in our materialistic world: a flipping train wreck.Women drivers.

. . .Heres to you, rare poet. There in the grave no lecherous feminine devil can assault your soul and annoy your heart, just for the beauty of your body. There is peace in that. You were too beautiful, my friend. Inside and out.
